The Grace Notes Women’s Ensemble was formed in 2017 and has quickly established itself as one of the premiere women’s choirs on Vancouver Island. With only 5 years of singing together and through a pandemic, the heart of this choir beats stronger than ever.  Their reputation for wholehearted and engaging performances is balanced with thoughtful attention to musical excellence and refinement.

Led by the musical team of Jenn Forsland and Sean Mooney, the choir explores music from a diverse range of styles, genres, and cultures. It also aims to push the boundaries of traditional choral music and has premiered numerous original compositions and arrangements specifically written for them.

For 15 years, Jenn Forsland has played an integral role in the Comox Valley music scene. In addition to performing regularly with a variety of ensembles, she directs the Celebration Singers, The Grace Notes Women’s Ensemble, the Fine Arts eCademy music program, and formally, the Island Voices Chamber Choir. A distinguished graduate of the music education program at UVic, Jenn trained classically as a vocalist, pianist, and conductor and has performed and taught throughout Canada and in the UK. For over 25 years, Jenn has worked with singers of all ages, as a teacher, conductor, adjudicator, and clinician. In 2019 she received the Amy Ferguson Award from the BC Choral Federation for technical excellence in her field. With enthusiasm and passion, she inspires singers of all ages to work towards choral and vocal excellence, musical sensitivity and a joyful expression of self through the shared musical experience.

Sean Mooney is a pianist who regularly performs throughout Vancouver Island. As a diverse musician, he performs many genres of music from classical to jazz, folk, original and pop music.
