Night Train Music Club

Sunday Night in the Concert Bowl.
Fronted by Steve Postell, Night Train Music Club features Bernard Fowler, Steve Holley, James Raymond, Vonda Shepard, Leland Sklar and probably some very special guests!
One of the most exciting elements of our Festival is being around when performers end up on stage together for once-in-a-lifetime collaborations. These jams are becoming legendary!
This excitement has spread to many of the musicians who have had the pleasure of experiencing it at MusicFest and other Festivals, so much so, that there are many amazing collaborative bands forming with the same spirit and coming to play for us this year. The Night Train Music Club is such a band.
The Night Train Music Club formed for a weekly jam session in Los Angeles put together by Steve Postell, who last performed at MusicFest as musical director for Jennifer Warnes. Steve is one of L.A.’s most respected session players and he and his buddies would gather at the weekly jam whenever they were in town and not working. It got to be so much fun, that a core group came together out of these informal jams and for the first time they have agreed to hit the road to come play exclusively for us at MusicFest.
This band is made up of the players who make the stars sound great and if you look in your music collection at home, you will see their names show up again and again.
This iteration of Night Train Music Club includes:
Bernard Fowler, who has been backing up Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones for over 20 years.
Drummer, Steve Holley, has provided some of the most solid and creative beats for Paul McCartney, Elton John, Joe Cocker, and Ian Hunter over the years.
Steve Postell is a singer/songwriter/guitarist/composer and producer… who has worked with everybody who’s anybody in music. From Broadway to Hollywood and everywhere in between, if you listen you’ll hear Steve somewhere.
James Raymond started studying piano at the age of six and was playing in rock and R&B bands by his early teens. He performs with his Dad, David Crosby, and Jeff Pevar in the great group CPR as well as being a top Musical Director for many TV shows and films. James has toured with Warren Zevon, Bonnie Raitt and Don Henley.
Vonda Shepard’s career has ranged in scope from early hits in the late ’80s with “Don’t Cry Ilene” (Reprise Records) and “Can’t We Try” (with Dan Hill) to her work as an independent artist, and then as the voice of Ally McBeal, selling more than 12 million records worldwide throughout the span of the hit TV show.
And, holding down the bottom, on bass guitar is perhaps the 70′s busiest, most in demand bass player, the legendary Leland Sklar. The man who wrote the book for 70′s sideguy bass players, Sklar played on classic albums by the likes of James Taylor, Hoyt Axton, Billy Thorpe, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Buffet, Glen Campbell, Kim Carnes, David Cassidy, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Leonard Cohen, Phil Collins, CSN, Neil Diamond, Donovan… well, you get the point…that’s only up to the D’s in Sklar’s list!
The Night Train Music Club will have other players joining them as well , this is only the beginning of who will be joining this fantastic group for shows and workshops on our MusicFest stages.
