Jesse Zubot

Jesse Zubot, of Britannia Beach, B.C., is a founding member of the acoustic-roots ensemble ‘Zubot & Dawson’. Zubot was also a member of the Great Uncles of the Revolution which included well-known Toronto bassist Andrew Downing and trumpeter Kevin Turcotte. Both of these recording acts are Juno Award winners.
Recently, Jesse has delved heavily into the world of creative & improvised music. In the past few years he has performed and recorded with the likes of Tanya Tagaq, François Houle, Eugene Chadbourne, Evan Parker, Dave Douglas, Peggy Lee, Tony Wilson, Fred Frith, Nels Cline, Henry Kaiser and many others. Jesse also works/worked with many contemporary artists such as Hawksley Workman, Alpha Yaya Diallo, Veda Hille, Oh Susannna, The Be Good Tanyas and Stars.
Despite being busy as a performer, Zubot has begun to take composition more seriously as well and in the past few years his works have been performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia and played in venues such as the influential Centre Pompidou in Paris. In 2005, Jesse started the acclaimed creative music label DRIP AUDIO, which now has 27 releases under its belt. Zubot was named ‘Violinist of the Year’ at Canada’s National Jazz Awards in 2003, ‘08 & ’09.
