Jamyang Yeshi

Jamyang Yeshi was born a nomad in Tibet, and escaped across the Himalayas in 1998, settling in Dharamsala, India,where he was part of the popular Aku Pema Performing Arts group. In 2004, Jamyang  released a CD with the singer, Yangchen, “Call from A Far Land,” and they also performed in Moscow at a Tibetan Buddhist cultural festival that year. 

In 2005 Jamyang was invited to give the opening night performance with Gompo Dhundup at the “Cultures at Risk” Summit at the Banff Centre in Canada, and as residents in the Centre’s Music & Sound Department, they produced “The Karma of Snowland” CD.  Jamyang has performed for H.H. the Dalai Lama and Prince Charles, and with Nawang Khechog in Toronto. His latest CD is “Shining Spirit” and a film, “Shining Spirit: The Musical Journey of Jamyang Yeshi,” which documents the making of this CD, in Tibet, India and Canada, was released in 2009, and is touring with the Banff Mountain Film Festival worldwide.

Jamyang’s music is featured in several documentaries, and he contributed to the Tibet Fund’s new CD, “Thundrill – Tibetan Contemporary Music.” In 2009, Jamyang toured in Hungary, and performed at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, as well as opening for k.d. lang at a special concert during the Dalai Lama’s visit to Calgary, Alberta. Jamyang will be a special guest at the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival in Colorado in May, as well as touring, and performing at several earthquake relief concerts this summer. He makes his home on Vancouver Island in Duncan.
