Violinist Ellika Frisell and singer and kora player Solo Cissokho has been a celebrated duo for years. NOW they are enhanced by percussionist Rafael Sida.
Ellika Frisell is one of Sweden’s most famous folk musicians. Ellika is also a veteran of the more experimental folk music scene, as a member of groups like Filarfolket, Den Fule and Rosenberg’s Sjua, and a variety of collaborations on the folk and world music scenes.
Solo Cissokho from Senegal plays kora, the 21 stringed harp/lute, and is a singer and “griot” from a long line of musicians. Solo has played with musicians such as the Indian violinist Subramanian and Ali Farka Toure from Mali, and cooperated with many other musicians in Europe and Africa. He has also given hundreds of school concerts in Norway and Sweden.
The multifaceted percussionist Rafael Sida has roots in Afro-Cuban and Latin percussion traditions. Raphael came to Sweden from Mexico in the 1970s and has since been a big name in jazz and world music in Sweden. He has toured for many years with Ale Möller, Jonas Knutsson and many others.
Ellika and Solo first met in Stockholm in 1998. After two prize-winning albums and receiving the BBC World Music Award they have taken a further step by including master percussionist Rafael in the group.
