Vancouver Island MusicFest July 10-12, 2009

Your Organization

Vancouver Island MusicFest works directly with community organizations to address issues and engage ideas that will make our event – and our planet – a healthier and happier place.

Each year the production team identifies priority issues and seeks partners in the community to give life and direction to our objectives. These partners then have an opportunity for a profile at our event through onsite activities and display areas, program information and signage.

For 2010 the event priorities are: local food sourcing, waste reduction and diversion, a total ban on disposable water bottles, water conservation and awareness, composting, kids and family free activities, alternative power, participatory art projects, transportation alternatives, and eco-education about the fairgrounds, the river and the Comox Valley.

In 2010 we are also working with youth, community and social service organizations in the region to explore ways to promote safety for young people at our event and at other festivals. This includes an open and frank community conversation about drugs and alcohol and sexual safety. We are  keen to address and engage our audience on issues related to youth safety in the festival environmental.

If your community organization is interested in contributing time, volunteer resources, networks, cash or supplies to help us meet our goals in 2010 please email us at info@islandmusicfest.com and we’ll discuss it further!

Past Projects: VIMF Community Art Project

In 2008 Vancouver Island MusicFest, and over 25 community organizations, undertook a large scale participatory community art project as part of the lead up to Vancouver Island MusicFest 2008.

Community art is culture in action. It is a collective expression of the values and hopes of the community. It welcomes professionals and amateurs and brings down barriers between ‘artists’ and ‘non-artists’. We are all participants in the culture of our community – as actors, painters, singers, players, writers, dreamers, teachers, parents, volunteers or audience.  To see the panels or find out more about this project click here..
